The Orchard House sits quietly between two apple orchards in northern Michigan, taking advantage of the topography to maintain a low profile while taking in as much light as possible in the morning and evenings.  By slipping the two volumes of the house past each other, each side is kept narrow to maximize light and natural ventilation.  One large opening passes through the house from the entry to the large bank of windows to the west, visually linking the orchards nearby and providing a distant view of the Jordan River valley below.
